Walkers make their way through the lush and verdant beauty of a pasture paradise with cosy huts and mountain restaurants before stopping for a rest at the Brentenjochhütte hut (delicious “Kiachl” are served every Saturday).
Eagle Walk Stage 04: Kufstein - Gasthof Buchacker
When leaving the charming historic small town behind, you might still be able to hear the sound of the “Heroes’ Organ” with its 4,948 perfectly tuned pipes – the world’s largest outdoor organ. First, take the train to Unterlangkampfen where the trail starts right above the church. Follow a steady climb through old-growth forest to gain elevation once again. Then take on a narrow path from Höhlensteinhaus Lodge to Köglhörndl, where you will enjoy magnificent views of Inntal Valley. The path continues to Hundsalmjoch Col at 1,637 metres altitude. Close to Alpengasthof Buchacker you will find Hundalm Ice Cave, at an elevation of 1,520 metres. Descend to the underground world directly from the top of the mountain. Almost like Plato’s allegory of the cave!

From Kufstein on the River Inn you continue towards the lovely lake region in the foothills of Kaisergebirge Mountain Massif, where you reach the village of Kössen after 33 kilometers. This stage of intermediate difficulty leads across flower-strewn meadows and deep green forests surrounded by the mighty summits of the Kaiser Mountains.
